Snowy Blackheath

It’s extremely snowy in Blackheath! But something is very wrong. All the trains appear to be running on time, and there is grit on several pavement corners. I have no idea why or how this has happened, but this oversight should not go unpunished.

Every year I dream of building a massive network of igloos across the heath, strung together with little ice tunnels. It never happens, but last year I managed to build an igloo (not in Blackeath). It’s not as hard as it looks, so long as you have lots of help, and some big plastic crates from a Pound Shop to compact the snow bricks. Try it and let me know where your Blackheath Igloo is!

Snowy Blackheath

It snowed. In case you haven’t looked out of the window. God knows how we’ll cope tomorrow, what with SouthEastern and everything. I really want to build a network of igloos on the heath, so here’s hoping there’s more snow… If you’ve got any nice pics of Blackheath, send them this way! Happy snowdays!

The Blackheath Igloo

The Blackheath Igloo on eBay

I can’t believe I missed the Blackheath igloo! It happened like this… Rubyeva sent me a post with a link to this eBay page. Spammers often do this, so when the page wouldn’t open on my silly phone, I assumed it had been removed. Today I finally managed to open it, and discovered the Blackheath Igloo, several days too late to actually go and admire it. I am distraught.

Anyway, the mysterious eBay user “123taharris” actually went ahead and made one! I assumed the snow would be too powdery, but clearly not! If Blackheath gets some more snow, we should organise a concerted effort to rebuild it! Maybe a whole igloo commune!

To “123taharris”: I am so impressed… I’d thought about doing exactly the same thing, and wrote about it here last week, but like many of my best laid plans, it never actually happened.

They attempted to sell the igloo on eBay as

Beautiful single storey, open plan eco-apartment. Use of original materials throughout and employs state of the art natural ventilation methods. Backs on to Blackheath with stunning views straight from the doorway. Stays cool in the summer and warm in the winter. Free of council tax, water and electricity bills. 5 mins walk from Blackheath station and all conveniences.
Viewing by appointment only. No reserve. Buy now to avoid disappointment (i.e, melting.)

Which makes me smile. Didn’t sell, which is a shame, as they were offering the proceeds to a charity.  There are a more photos of it on the eBay page.

More photos of the snow in Blackheath and Greenwich! I think we need a Blackheath igloo! This page says it is easy…. And this one says it isn’t.

The more it snows…

Snow in Blackheath station
Tiddlypom… Mrs Bugle took this shot this evening, despite me complaining that it was too cold, and please could we get back to our nice warm home. I’m sure you’ve all taken many artistic shots of the lovely snow, so if you have, please send me the links!

Can’t remember who mentioned it on Twitter, but it was something like

“As this snow has been well predicted, presumably the trains will run like clockwork in the morning…”
