If you have a season ticket on your oyster card

Very useful information, via Diamond Geezer:

This guide shows you how to get a third off any single off-peak rail travel using your oystercard, if you already have a 16-25 Railcard, Disabled Railcard, a Gold Card, HM Forces Railcard, or a Senior Railcard.

But you have to go and ask a human being for it, in a station. Which is daft… It’s almost like they don’t want you to use it!

I love the fact that the guide includes step-by-step button-pushing instructions for the station staff.

  1. This is really good for students who don’t study in London but live here – they can get similar discounts to the over 18 student Oyster. Unfortunately the technology doesn’t exist at Overground stations like Blackheath (I’ve asked!) so you have to go toan Tube station to get one (with your instructions leaflet!).

Easiest thing is to just get your travel-card on Oyster in the first place.
It is also worth knowing that if you have a Gold Card you can get the 1/3 discount for anyone travelling with you too. I never realised this til a kind hearted ticket sales officer pointed it out one day!

What’s really bad is that this discount isn’t (or at least wasn’t) automatically applied EVEN IF you bought an annual gold travelcard on an Oyster card at a tube station.
